Alamogordo city manager outlines golf course RFP, master meter replacement and fleet leasing plan

On the golf course RFP, the City Manager said the solicitation will be published on Jan. 17 and again on Jan. 24, with a mandatory walkthrough for prospective proposers on Feb. 9 and presentations to the commission scheduled for March 24, 2026 when an award will be considered. He said the process will mirror the recent approach used for the fund center and encouraged commissioners and interested parties to review the published materials once posted.
The City Manager described an anticipated master meter replacement program for the city’s water system and said the work on major lines and master meters is expected to take a little over a year once contracts are in place. He also outlined a proposed leasing program to replace aging municipal vehicles incrementally rather than purchasing replacements outright, with staff working on implementation details.
Other project updates included construction activity at the La Luz reservoir, the upcoming Fairgrounds Intersection work, curb work on Oregon, landfill cell work (identified as "Veil 6"), tank rehabilitation to begin in the coming weeks, and downtown crosswalk arm-bars and striping scheduled soon. The City Manager also noted certification news: Rachel, a city staff member, earned master municipal clerk certification, of about 400 such certifications nationwide, which the manager said strengthens city administrative capacity.
The City Manager urged commissioners to attend Otero County Days to pursue water infrastructure funding for regional projects, noting county-level projects and the potential to secure state or federal funds. He asked commissioners to coordinate with city staff and Rachel to plan travel and lobbying activities.
