The library board voted to adopt an amended interlibrary loan policy after a short discussion of program mechanics and limits.
Julia Kiley, the presiding officer, moved to adopt the changes and the motion was seconded; the chair called for the vote and members voiced approval with no recorded opposition.
Corey Burkhold, the library director, explained the practical workings of interlibrary loans: staff search WorldCat to locate items not in the local consortium, place requests through CCRLS channels and process incoming loans with a temporary catalog record and a book strap for tracking. "We do process, I would say, between 2 and 5 a week, generally," Burkhold said, describing typical volume.
The revision makes modest clarifications rather than sweeping policy shifts: the document will be titled the "interlibrary loan policy" (removing the acronym-only label), it retains the existing annual limit of 12 ILL items per patron, confirms the library's average postage charge remains $5, and specifies that the policy is not a workaround for current best-seller holds (requests should be for items more than one year old, per the policy text). Burkhold also noted that some CCRLS procedures are changing and the staff are monitoring how those changes will affect local processing.
The motion to adopt the amended policy was made, seconded and carried during the meeting with no opposed votes recorded by the chair. The board completed other routine business and adjourned at 6:52 p.m.
