The Service Merit Board on Jan. 14 received progress updates on the county's human-resources systems and recruiting efforts, including a planned March launch of a new Oracle recruiting module.
Missy, civil service staff, told the board that "the go live date now is March," and said rollout activities will include training and communications to staff. She reported the department's eskill online testing contract is complete and that police structured oral interviews have finished and led to promotions. Missy said the fire department will post firefighter recruit openings soon and is planning a career fair in February; she described last year's fair as drawing "almost 90 applications on-site" and "several 100" attendees.
Why it matters: The Oracle implementation will change hiring workflows and how employees access email and other systems, staff said; the board was also given a snapshot of workload in the civil service office, which Missy said has produced 49 requisitions since the last meeting and is handling one ongoing grievance and two appeals.
Board members asked no substantive follow-ups beyond clarifying routine details after the presentation. Missy also noted the staff team attended the annual Wimberly Lawson legal update and highlighted a recent team event at the Knoxville Arts Center.
The board took no separate action on these operational items; they were presented for information and planning. The next steps are training and communications tied to the Oracle go-live and routine follow-up at future board meetings.
