Deputy City Manager Andy Bohannon told the committee an anonymous donor offered $35,000 to support a conceptual design for the Ash Willard River Park green space on Ash Willard Street. Bohannon said the design work will help the city prepare a stronger Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant application and support public engagement via the park advisory board.
"This is a generous gift from this donor and would enable us to begin to move forward and create this design and scope of budget and everything," Bohannon said. A councilor moved and the committee unanimously recommended acceptance of the donation.
The donation will support design work and public outreach; staff said the work will help position the project for future grant rounds and the capital improvement plan process. The full city council will consider formal acceptance and any appropriation or CIP adjustments required to include the project in the capital plan.
