Columbia County School Board approves agenda, personnel items and consent agenda; Summers Elementary VPK leads pledge

The Columbia County School Board opened its meeting with an invocation and a Pledge of Allegiance led by VPK students from Summers Elementary and approved routine business by voice vote.

The presiding officer read the district mission and introduced Summers Elementary for the invocation and pledge. Board members at the dais applauded and thanked Summers Elementary and the VPK teachers (Miss McDonald, Miss Rodriguez, Miss Dyer and Miss Caldwell) for their participation.

The board then moved to adopt the agenda with an addendum and approved it by voice vote after the presiding officer called for 'aye.' Later, an unidentified board member moved to approve the personnel items on the agenda and addendum; another unidentified member seconded the motion and the board approved those items by voice vote. The board also approved the consent agenda, including addendum items, following a motion and second.

Several board members offered brief remarks of appreciation. Miss Smith thanked Summers Elementary for bringing the students and praised the teachers and principal. "You all are doing an amazing job," a board member said during remarks praising Summers Elementary and district staff; another board member noted that "Mister Cooper is our district principal of the year this year." Those remarks were expressions of recognition rather than formal board actions.

With no public commenters on action items, the meeting moved to staff announcements and then adjourned.

The meeting was adjourned by the presiding officer at the conclusion of business.
