The Abington Board of School Directors approved a slate of routine administrative and fiscal items during its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting.
Actions taken included approval of the minutes of Dec. 1 and Dec. 9; adoption of personnel changes contained in addenda 8.1 (which included requests for leaves of absence, two professional appointments, compensation for curriculum projects and several retirements); approval of payment of bills for the period ending Nov. 30, 2025 (addendum 9.1); and approval of permits for use of buildings and grounds (addendum 10.1).
The board authorized advertisements for bids for a 30‑passenger student transportation bus (to be funded from the 2025–26 general fund) and for consolidated K–12 professional photography services (the administration said the photography arrangement carries no cost to the district and aims to provide a single K–12 provider for continuity of IDs and better pricing). Dr. Fetcher said the district previously had multiple photography vendors and consolidating seeks improved consistency and value.
Two contract awards were approved: an audio-equipment upgrade for Abington Senior High School’s auditorium and a retroactive emergency contract for a water‑main repair at McKinley Elementary School. The administration said it submitted the emergency repair to the district’s insurer and that any reimbursement would be subject to the policy deductible and would offset district expenses.
The board also authorized the administration to submit certification of what the meeting transcript calls "Sterling Act" tax credits to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Administrative staff (Miss Denicola) told the board the submission certifies a 2024 wage amount of $517,530,537.79 and a Sterling Act tax credit of $2,587,652.69; the Pennsylvania Department of Education is scheduled to release homestead relief amounts in May 2026.
The board approved confidential student matters (addenda 14.1) covering one student disciplinary adjudication and one education service agreement. Administrators said a particular disciplinary case includes a 45‑day expulsion; the student will use the district’s Abington cyber education program, and the board described the process for informal hearings and the family’s right to a formal hearing if desired.
All actions reported at the meeting were approved by voice vote. The administration said supporting documents and addenda are posted with the district’s meeting materials online.
