A staff presenter told council the fire department received a state grant and requested just over $2,000,000 from the Heritage Fund to equip the hazardous substance emergency response team with a fire engine, a specialty vehicle, a utility terrain vehicle and detection equipment. The packet also included a requested $4,000 increase to the Heritage Fund for a Marathon Community Investment Program grant to buy a foam-application nozzle.
Planning and Development Services requested a $985,000 revenue-neutral increase to support a Pay-for-Success supportive housing program; Boise State University will serve as the independent evaluator required under the program. Public Works requested a $219,000 appropriation increase tied to an EPA Thriving Communities grant to fund community-based climate resilience and neighborhood-resilience hubs.
Council members praised staff’s grant-seeking work and, after a motion and second, approved the interim budget changes by unanimous roll call.
What happens next: Funds will be allocated as specified in the staff packet; BSU will begin the independent evaluation required under the Pay-for-Success program, and departments will implement projects consistent with grant terms.
