Council approves first reading to raise air-permit fees at county request

The East Ridge City Council on Jan. 8 approved first reading of Ordinance 12-40, an update to Title 20, Chapter 2 (East Ridge Air Pollution Control Ordinance) that raises permit, application, license, late and emission fees at the request of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau.
City Manager Miller told council the fee schedules had not been increased since 2017 (previous increases noted in 2006 and 1995) and that the proposed changes align East Ridge with countywide updates. The ordinance language and a redline version of the fee table were provided to council for first reading.
Councilmember Witt moved approval on first reading and Vice Mayor Tyler seconded; the first reading passed on roll call. Staff said the ordinance will return for a second and final reading as required by municipal ordinance procedure.
Next steps: staff will prepare the final ordinance for second reading and adoption at a later meeting.
