Port Orchard council ratifies two three-year Teamsters contracts for public works and municipal court staff

The Port Orchard City Council on Jan. 13 authorized the mayor to sign two three-year collective bargaining agreements with Teamsters Local 5, Local 89 covering public works and municipal court employees for 2026–2028.
Human resources staff said the contracts represent negotiated successor agreements reached after bargaining that began in September. “The Teamsters have voted and ratified this agreement,” staff member Miss Lund told the council, and she asked the council to authorize the mayor to execute the documents.
Councilors praised the process and the results as stabilizing for the city's workforce. Council members said the agreements include significant raises that improve pay parity with neighboring jurisdictions. Motions to authorize the mayor to sign each agreement were moved, seconded and approved by voice votes.
No amendments or roll-call vote tallies were recorded in the meeting minutes; the council's approvals were entered by voice vote.
The approvals clear the way for staff to finalize signature and implementation steps under the contracts, which staff said were provided in full to council under attorney-client privilege during negotiations.
