County moves leftover CDBG rehab funds into Southeast Nebraska Housing Bridge Fund

Lancaster County approved a resolution to reallocate $42,665.63 of unspent CDBG owner-occupied rehabilitation funds to the Southeast Nebraska Housing Bridge Fund, allowing the county to participate in a new regional housing program.
Lancaster County commissioners voted Jan. 13 to reapply $42,665.63 in unused Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the owner-occupied housing rehabilitation program to the Southeast Nebraska Housing Bridge Fund.
Dennis Meyer, county budget and fiscal officer, explained the owner-occupied program is winding down after 15–20 projects in recent years and that the recommended action would move the remaining balance into the regional housing bridge fund. "This resolution will just move that money from owner occupied to the housing bridge fund, and it will still allow for Lancaster County to be a player in some of that housing market," Meyer said.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the resolution by roll call. Meyer said the transfer positions Lancaster County to participate in regional housing initiatives without losing access to the remaining CDBG dollars.
The board's action does not create new spending beyond the reallocation of remaining grant funds; it redirects the existing balance into a different eligible program administered at a regional level.
