County to apply for CDOT-funded mini-grant to buy car seats, train technicians

"This is an opportunity to apply for, a mini grant. The funds are sourced through CDOT. They're administered by Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment," said the presenter, who described seeking just under $10,000 — the program maximum — to purchase about 20 car seats, train new technicians and support events from the expected award in February through September.
The presenter noted Colorado law and best practices guide child-seat use and inspection and said used seats without a known history are often expired or damaged and should be retired. "If it's been in an accident, it should be retired," he said, describing coordination with state patrol for recycling retired seats.
Commissioners asked procedural and eligibility questions; staff described relying on donations and modest local fundraising in past years and said the grant would expand education and access in areas where families buy seats or vehicles. No final acceptance or budget appropriation occurred at the workshop.
