Madison County approves 2026 unfunded road plan; funded road list passes after heated debate over $1M Camden wastewater allocation

A separate discussion over a funded road list turned contentious. One supervisor urged postponing a funded road plan until the usual February schedule and criticized what they described as an early push that left District 1 without funded projects. The supervisor called the December timing "unscrupulous and underhanded." Supporters said $1,000,000 had already been set aside for a Camden wastewater improvement and framed that allocation as tied to a regional economic development approach that may require an interlocal RETA agreement to allow county funds to participate.
After substitute motions and debate the board voted on the presented funded list; the chair announced the vote as 3 in favor and 2 opposed and the motion carried. The board also approved a stormwater/MS4 services proposal from Allen Engineering for 2026 at a fee not to exceed $21,000.
Next steps: staff will continue to refine funded project scopes and pursue available grant opportunities for listed projects.
