A Gulfport resident, identified in the record as Lashonda Halbert, told the Harrison County Board of Supervisors that a county vehicle rear-ended her vehicle at the intersection of D.R. Road and Highway 49 on Aug. 26, 2025. Halbert said the impact aggravated recent medical issues following a stroke and described ongoing functional difficulty using her trunk and needing physical therapy.
County staff told the board they had no medical records in the packet showing injuries tied to the incident and could not determine causation from the vehicle-damage documentation on file. County counsel and staff recommended the board refer Halbert’s claim to the county adjuster, identified in the meeting as Mr. Warren, who will inspect the vehicle, gather medical authorizations and records, and evaluate whether the injuries and vehicle damage are related to the reported accident.
Supervisors voted to refer the claim to the county adjuster for investigation. The board directed the claimant to provide contact information so Warren can follow up and requested any additional medical evidence be submitted to support the claim. No final settlement or payment decision was recorded at the meeting.
The referral preserves the county’s ability to investigate further and provides a formal administrative step for the claimant to submit supporting records.
