Clear Creek commissioners approve MOU to fund Mountain Backpack weekend meals for local students

Casano said the plan would provide $10 per student per week and the program currently serves about 60 students, meaning roughly $600 per week from TANF for the backpacks. "We're just helping fund it to ensure that it continues providing the service here," Casano said. Commissioners asked whether the county would run the program or fund an existing nonprofit; staff clarified the county would fund the existing Mountain Backpack program, which coordinates distribution through schools.
Board members asked about eligibility and logistics; Casano said schools coordinate counts and an eligibility form is sent to parents to confirm TANF qualification. A commissioner moved to approve the MOU between Clear Creek County and the Mountain Backpack program; the motion was seconded and approved.
The MOU will be finalized administratively and staff will return with details of implementation as needed.
