Council agrees to sell replacement trash carts to residents at cost (rounded to $50)

City staff asked the council for direction on a resident price for replacement trash carts at the Dec. 16 meeting. After discussion about actual unit cost and delivery, staff reported the per-cart cost worked out to $49.50 and, after delivery, $50.19. Council members agreed to sell the carts to residents at cost and directed staff to round the price to $50 to avoid asking residents for pennies.
"I'm perfectly comfortable with rounding to $50 — I'm not going to ask people to get pennies out," a staff member said. Another council member recommended selling at cost so future orders (which may cost more) will not force the city to subsidize replacements.
The motion to approve purchasing the trash carts and providing them to residents at cost carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: staff will order the carts, schedule delivery, and communicate the $50 cost to residents.
