The Hendersonville Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously confirmed George Edwards as the city’s fire chief on Jan. 13 after a national recruitment and interview process.
Mayor Robertson described the recruitment process and said Edwards was "unanimously selected as the top candidate" by an interview panel that included regional fire and public-safety leaders. Alderman Goodwin, chair of public safety, spoke in support of Edwards; the board then held a roll-call vote approving the nomination. Edwards addressed the board, thanked members for their trust and said he intends to continue building on a decade of departmental progress.
The appointment is effective immediately; staff and the public-safety committee welcomed Chief Edwards and noted he has been serving in the interim role for several months. The board set aside time for Edwards to address the chamber and several aldermen offered congratulations.
