RSU 04 board recognizes student athletes and sportsmanship awards

The RSU 04 Board of Directors used part of its January meeting to recognize fall-season athletic achievements at Oak Hill High School. Jack Carney, the school’s cross-country coach, highlighted senior Abigail Gervais’s season, saying she “placed fourth at the Mountain Valley Conference Championship,” finished 11th at the Southern regional meet and “placed fourteenth out of 81 runners” at the state championship at Cony High School.
Will Fessinen, representing the South Central Maine Board of Soccer Officials, told the board the officials’ group “voted unanimously to award the sportsmanship award for 2025 to the Oak Hill boys soccer team,” citing behavior on and off the field as reasons for the honor. The board complimented coaches for emphasizing sportsmanship after a difficult previous season.
Ed Zewis, the golf coach, noted the golf team earned a back-to-back MPA sportsmanship award for the first time in decades and encouraged community support. He also invited the public to a Unified Basketball round-robin at the Augusta Civic Center on Jan. 29 that will feature the district’s unified team alongside several other schools.
Board members thanked coaches and student representatives for attending and praised the district’s emphasis on sportsmanship and student leadership. The recognitions were presented as part of the superintendent’s report; no formal board action was recorded for the recognitions.
