Rotary leaders outline grant-funded program to teach students and parents about online human trafficking

Rotary Club leaders told the Clear Lake City Council on Dec. 18 that a grant-funded outreach program will bring PolyClass Foundation presentations to schools and communities around the lake to educate students and parents about online human-trafficking risks.
Mark Lips, area governor of the Lake County Rotary Clubs, described organizing three Rotary clubs, securing a district grant and partnering with PolyClass Foundation and Lake Family Resources to run six presentations across the region. "We are using that grant. We've invited PolyClass Foundation to come here. They're going to present six presentations all around the lake," Lips said, adding that they will provide childcare, dinner and bilingual flyers to remove attendance barriers for families.
Abdi Neriah, president of the Rotary Club of Clear Lake and a licensed clinical social worker, said peer-led, middle-school-focused presentations are evidence-based and may be more effective than adult-led talks. He noted local school districts and the Red Bud health care district had agreed to partner and provide sponsorship or grant support.
Rotary leaders asked the council to help share program information with school partners and the public; they said the intent is to sustain the initiative as an annual program backed by Rotary clubs and local partners.
No council action was required; the remarks were presented during the public-comment portion of the meeting as community outreach and an appeal for help with dissemination.
