Alachua County honors school board attorney David Delaney with statewide professionalism award

At a Jan. 12 workshop the Alachua County School Board and the Florida School Board Attorneys Association recognized David Delaney with the Edward J. Marco Outstanding Community Service and Professionalism Award for decades of service and leadership in education law.
John Palmerini, immediate past president of the Florida School Board Attorneys Association, presented the Edward J. Marco Outstanding Community Service and Professionalism Award to David Delaney at the Alachua County School Board's Jan. 12 workshop.
Palmerini praised Delaney's long career in school-law work, telling the board that Delaney is "smart" and "always well prepared" and that when Delaney speaks, "we listen." He described the award as recognition of Delaney's service to the statewide association and his practical guidance on special-education and other legal issues.
Delaney thanked family members and educators in the room and acknowledged his gratitude to teachers, administrators and coaches who supported his path into public service.
The presentation was made at the start of a broader policy workshop in which the board reviewed numerous statutorily driven policy updates. The workshop moved immediately afterward into a public-comment period and an extended staff presentation of proposed policy changes and timelines for first and second readings.
