Coppell announces fire chief retirement, project completions and new utility payment portal

City Manager reported that Fire Chief Kevin Richardson will retire Feb. 27 and outlined completed and ongoing infrastructure projects (water interconnects, Magnolia Park trail, dog park work, DART Silver Line pavement repairs, service center move) and said a new utility billing payment portal with e-check, autopay and text-to-pay will launch soon.
City Manager (Mr. Land) told the Coppell City Council on Jan. 13 that Fire Chief Kevin Richardson has submitted his retirement effective Feb. 27; a reception is planned for Feb. 24 and the city will recognize Chief Richardson at the Feb. 10 council meeting.
Mr. Land also summarized project progress: the Coppell Emergency Water Interconnects project is complete; Magnolia Park trail work is finished; the dog park concrete is complete and turf and shade structures will be installed in the coming weeks; DART Silver Line contractor continues pavement repairs; service-center staff have moved into the new section and interior work on the old facility continues; the justice center interior demolition and utilities work is underway; Bullock and Howell contractor mobilized for right-of-way tree trimming and storm-drain work; preconstruction for Hunterwood Park bank stabilization is complete and work will begin later this month; Royal Lane reconstruction has a preconstruction meeting scheduled with mobilization planned by month-end.
Mr. Land said the city will introduce a new utility billing payment portal that will add e-check, autopay by debit/credit and text-to-pay options and that more information will be released when the operational date is set. The manager said staff will provide help to any customers who need assistance with the new portal.
