Council assigns members to boards, commissions and work groups; housing and welcoming prioritized

Mayor Benjamin reviewed a roster of council-assigned positions and noted two external organizations listed on the template (PalouseOne and SWEDA) are no longer appropriate options. Council members described the roles and time commitments for bodies including the Downtown Pullman Association (DPA), the library board, the Palouse Basin Aquifer Committee, the Lodging Tax Advisory Commission and the Capital Improvement Program committee.
Bobbie Ryder and councilors described DPA activities—events, lighting projects and grant work—while library board responsibilities were outlined by councilors and library director Stacy Etchenov, who provides monthly budget and program reports. Council members volunteered for or accepted assignments, and Mayor Benjamin announced a proposed roster (audit committee: McDonald and Shumas; CIP: McDonald and Wright; DPA: Shumas; library: Parks; LTAC: Wright and Vance; PBAC: Weller; PRTPO: Fujaren; volunteer fire pension and relief board: Vance; solid waste: Fujaren).
Council also discussed goal-based work groups (strategic tourism, housing, bypass, in-town railway repurposing, welcoming, and strategic influence & partnerships). Members agreed housing and welcoming warrant continued attention through the upcoming goal-setting process; Vance and McDonald joined housing and Schulman(s) and McDonald were added to welcoming. Mayor Benjamin said work groups will sunset with new council goals and be reassessed during goal setting.
