Lauderhill — The City Commission heard updates Jan. 12 on community beautification, wellness programming and a new neighborhood enrichment effort.
Mayor Denise Grant said a recent cleanup drew more than 400 volunteers and that the city will host at least three organized cleanups per year. City manager Hobbs described a newly formed "neat team" (Neighborhood Enrichment Team) made up of staff from police, fire, public works, code enforcement and community standards; the team will begin by auditing city properties, then commercial properties and, later, residential units, providing notices and time to comply before enforcement actions.
Parks & Recreation Director Scott Newton summarized Move With the Mayor offerings — monthly 'Stretch and Breathe' events and weekly Wellness Wednesdays beginning Jan. 20 — aimed at promoting broadly accessible fitness and health education.
Fire division staff reported elevator inspections across the city: 223 elevators assessed, 18 initially flagged with deficiencies, nine corrected on reinspection and limited properties awaiting modernization permits. The commission said the initiative is part of a broader effort to change perceptions about city upkeep and safety.
Next steps: the neat team will report its assessments and staff will work with departments to address issues on city property before commencing residential inspections and enforcement.
