Council adopts update to historic-preservation code to match state guidance

Planner Ariel presented ordinance 26-01 and said the Historic Preservation Commission and staff revised local code language to follow updated guidance from the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation and supplemental language from the National Park Service. "Shortly after we adopted the code, the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation for Washington State sent out some new guidance on how your historic preservation code should read," Ariel said, urging the council to adopt the amendments.
City Clerk Thad read the ordinance title: "An ordinance of the city council of the city of Pullman, Whitman County, Washington, relating to historic preservation, amending Pullman city code section 17.15, amending ordinance number 25-08..." The council moved, held brief discussion, and approved the ordinance by voice vote.
Staff said the amendments are mainly grammatical and intended to ensure state and federal guidance are reflected in local code; the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation had reviewed the amendments and indicated concurrence before the council vote. The ordinance passed without recorded opposition.
