Pitt County approves interlocal agreement to administer Farmville building inspections

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners approved an interlocal agreement authorizing the county inspections department to administer the Town of Farmville’s enforcement of the North Carolina building code and the flood damage prevention ordinance.
Jonas Hill and Tim Corley presented the item, saying Farmville’s governing body had already approved the agreement. The presenters said all fees collected under the arrangement would be used by Pitt County’s inspections department and that fee revenue—based on recent permit history and a planned Farmville subdivision that could generate an estimated $200,000 over the life of the project—would be sufficient to cover staff time. "We actually have a position that's floating right now within inspections that we could hire someone today if we wanted to," a county representative said when asked whether the existing inspection staff could absorb the additional workload.
The presenters also said Pitt County already provides building inspection services for other municipalities in the county, with Winterville and Greenville as exceptions that maintain their own inspectors. Commissioners moved and seconded approval; the chair called for a vote and the motion passed (voice vote; transcript does not include a roll-call tally).
