Riverside trustees approve appointments, gift cards and warrants; honor long-serving assessor

At its Dec. 8, 2025 meeting, the Riverside Township Board of Trustees approved a package of routine but substantive actions: reappointment and appointment to the township Mental Health Board, authorization of additional holiday gift cards for the food pantry, ratification of warrants for December operating payments, and adoption of a resolution honoring the township assessor on her retirement.
Appointments: The board reappointed Christine Carr to the Riverside Township Mental Health Board for the term Jan. 1, 2026'Dec. 31, 2029 (Resolution 2025-4) and appointed Melinda J. Lehman to the same board and term (Resolution 2025-5). Trustee Heilenbach moved both motions; Trustee Clark and others seconded and the motions were approved by voice vote.
Food pantry support: Supervisor Vera Wilt told trustees she had already purchased 10 extra holiday gift cards (one distributed) and asked authorization to purchase those and additional cards if demand increased. Trustee DeCastle moved the authorization; Trustee Heilenbach seconded. The board approved the purchase on a unanimous roll call vote. Supervisor Wilt said she had already distributed 81 gift cards through the prior period and had purchased five additional gift cards earmarked for Riverside Foods and Aldi to ensure immediate availability.
Warrants and payments: Trustees authorized and ratified the December warrants as presented: general warrant $20,940.08; utility warrant $815.33; payroll warrant $20,228.15; health warrant $3,456.57; community partnerships $11,000; general assistance $4,259.78; township radio $180; and food pantry $850.03. Motions for warrant ratifications were moved and seconded and approved on roll call.
Honoring the assessor: The board adopted Resolution 2025-6 honoring the township assessor for years of service and declaring Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, as a day recognizing the assessor. The transcript includes inconsistent spellings of the assessor's name; the assessor identified herself in the meeting as Fran Sethowitz when delivering her final report earlier in the agenda. The board planned a small post-meeting reception with refreshments.
