Summary
The board authorized purchase of a 2.9‑acre parcel underlying the Pin Road convenience center for about $30,391 and accepted a low construction bid of $1,522,587.70 for the Whiteman Road convenience center; both actions were supported by committee recommendations and carried by voice votes.
The Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors approved two property and procurement actions recommended by committees: exercising a purchase option for a convenience‑center parcel and awarding a construction contract for another convenience center.
Property committee members reported the county has the option to purchase the Pin Road convenience-center site, a 2.9‑acre parcel, under an agreement that set the purchase price at $10,000 per acre in earlier years with a 2% annual increase beginning Jan. 1, 2023. Staff calculated the purchase price at approximately $30,391. The committee recommended exercising the option and authorized the county administrator and county attorney to sign documents needed to complete the sale; a supervisor moved to approve the purchase and the motion carried by voice vote.
Separately, the Landfill Committee reviewed three bids for the Whiteman Road convenience center; the lowest bid of $1,522,587.70 was received from Jay Barker Construction. The committee voted unanimously to recommend awarding the contract; the board voted to accept the bid and authorize contract actions.
Committee discussion also addressed the county's inventory of about 18 small parcels (former green-dumpster locations) for possible disposition; staff recommended retaining two active dumpster parcels and asked board members to research parcels in their districts before reconsidering disposal in February.
