Dixon USD 170 board approves solar PPAs, Chuck Veil Drive transfer, calendar and routine items

The Dixon Unit School District 170 Board of Education on Jan. 14 approved multiple routine actions, including site-specific solar power purchase agreements that allow engineering to proceed under the Illinois Shines program and an intergovernmental agreement to add Chuck Veil Drive to district property.
Board members voted to approve the consent agenda — covering minutes, treasurer’s report, monthly bills and routine reports — and then moved through separate motions to approve the solar agreements, disposal of obsolete equipment, the Chuck Veil Drive agreement with the Dixon Park District, second reading of updated policies, the FY27 school year calendar and a preschool-for-all parent coordinator job description. Each motion was moved, seconded and approved in roll calls recorded in the meeting.
District business manager Mark (business report) told the board the solar approvals are broken down by building so Solar 1 can complete required engineering and participate in the Illinois Shines rebate program. "Solar 1 has already, gotten us signed up with the Illinois Shines program, which is where the rebates come back from," Mark said during the update. The board also authorized disposal of outdated technology after staff explained inventory, data wiping and environmentally appropriate disposal procedures.
On land and facilities, administration described work already under way near the track and field, and said Chuck Veil Drive will be repaved in spring once ownership transfers. The board voted to approve the intergovernmental agreement that will place that stretch of road under district control for future use and maintenance.
Personnel items approved included a slate of hires and coaching assignments at Dixon High School and RMS. The board also approved the second reading of policy updates (administration said these were primarily technical updates to comply with changes in law) and adopted the recommended 2026–27 calendar, which gives the full week of Thanksgiving off and adjusts finals and parent-teacher conference scheduling to reduce conflict with the Whiteside Area Career Center calendar.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn to closed session to discuss personnel and student disciplinary matters; the adjournment time was announced at 7:41 p.m.
