County awards awning contract to low bidder, discusses procurement for old culverts

Hardin County Commissioners on Jan. 13 approved several procurement actions, including awarding an awning installation contract and authorizing disposition of old metal culverts.
Misty Simmer, purchasing agent, presented results of a Dec. 30 bid opening for a roughly 30-by-45-foot awning at R&B1. She reported four bids and recommended awarding to the low bidder: Crown Electric Incorporated at $28,950. The court voted to award the contract to Crown Electric by voice vote.
On older metal culverts, Simmer presented prior bid activity and commissioners noted repeated instances of no bids on similar disposals. One commissioner suggested consulting the county attorney about changing the procedure to avoid repeated advertising costs. The court authorized the recommended disposition.
During the awning discussion a commissioner noted the high bidder on the project charged more than twice the low bid and that the same contractor is currently doing work on courthouse and jail restrooms; the court indicated it will seek other bidders for future interior work rather than assign additional projects to that higher-priced contractor.
The procurement actions move forward with a low-bid award for the awning and administrative follow-up on culvert disposition and procurement processes.
