Doña Ana County commissioners approved an agreement with Doña Ana Community College to create a water-technology internship program intended to give students hands-on experience with county operations while increasing the pool of certified water-technology workers.
"Comisionados aprobaron un nuevo acuerdo con Doña Ana Community College," the presenter said, describing the internship program and noting more details will be provided later.
The agreement was one of several items the presenter summarized from recent commission actions. The presenter also said the county may begin design and construction work on projects tied to a recently passed general obligation bond and could seek reimbursement "de hasta 10000000 de dólares" (up to $10,000,000). The presenter said that today's approvals allow the county to advance with project work while additional approvals from the commission are still expected.
In separate action, the commission approved more than $800,000 for Doña Ana County Fire Rescue to buy new equipment. According to the presenter, about $300,000 will be used to buy self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and more than $500,000 will be used to purchase cardiac first-aid equipment for county ambulances and fire apparatus.
