The Christian County Commission voted to approve an addendum to its 2023 special-event order that will allow businesses and organizers to submit multiple event permit applications at the same time.
The presiding commissioner said the change is intended to improve safety and coordination for large gatherings: "the advantage to the county, I believe, is the fact that we'll know ahead of time what all these plans are," the presiding commissioner said, adding that advance notice helps ensure "the sheriff's office, the first responders, ambulance, fire, everybody would know what's going on in a certain part of the county."
Commissioners discussed examples of events that prompted the 2023 order and the addendum: a large-scale event on Riverside Road and Green Bridal Road and the county's annual Christian concert were cited as instances when coordinated planning and service coverage are important.
Unidentified Speaker 4 clarified that routine private family gatherings or church services are not the target of the rule; the addendum is aimed at commercial-scale events that may need road closures, security or other public-safety services.
The commission moved, seconded and approved the addendum by voice vote. County staff said the signed addendum will be filed with the original order and that county attorney review and signature will follow.
The commission's action modifies how event applications are submitted and scheduled; staff said the change is designed to let responders and insurers plan and to reduce last-minute gaps in coverage.
