City staff told the Montebello Parks and Recreation Commission on Jan. 15 that the formerly 18-hole course has been converted to a 9-hole championship course, reopened in May 2024, and now includes a new clubhouse and golf shop.
During a recap of the golf ad hoc committee, staff said the project’s construction timeline ran from October 2022 over about 20 months. Staff described current operations handled under contract by Troon, including pro-shop and maintenance services, and outlined hours: night golf Wednesdays through Sundays beginning at 4 p.m., and regular nine-hole hours around 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., changing seasonally as daylight allows.
Staff highlighted promotions including a family special — $25 for four people on the short course through 4 p.m. — and a replay option that provides an 18-hole experience for about $55 including a cart. Staff also reported year-over-year increases in rounds — at one point saying rounds were up 27% year over year and later saying they increased 32% — figures given during the same recap. "We will be reopening the driving range on Friday, January 23," staff said, adding an opening-hours plan of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and a driving-range grand-opening event scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The commission received the recap and did not take a formal vote on golf operations at the Jan. 15 meeting. Staff said the driving-range reopening and promotional offerings are intended to increase rounds and revenue for the golf course fund.
