Students receive 'mayor for a day' certificates; present ideas on safety, water and amenities

As part of a "mayor for a day" recognition, two students addressed the council with short presentations on ideas they would pursue if they were mayor. Glenn proposed building an indoor-outdoor swimming pool/water park, providing water filtration or filters to improve water quality, and adding clean public restrooms and drinking fountains at parks and beaches. Talia suggested more roundabouts to keep traffic moving safely, dog water stations dispensed by a coin mechanism, and speed bumps to slow traffic at crosswalks.
The mayor and council thanked the students and presented certificates; the mayor noted staff is already working on some water-quality issues (manganese in park water supplies) and crosswalk improvements in downtown areas.
