Seal Beach honors Harbor Surfboards and filmmakers behind ‘Harbor Chronicles’

Mayor Landau read a proclamation noting that Rich Harbor opened Harbor Surfboards on Main Street in 1962 and that the shop at 329 Main Street is one of the longest‑operating surf shops in its original location. The proclamation also honored Harbor’s legacy and the film Harbor Chronicles, which the council said has helped “preserve and share the rich history of Seal Beach’s surfing heritage.”
Chris Sardelis and Enzia Farrell, credited by the council as creators of Harbor Chronicles, accepted the proclamation and thanked the Harbor family and the community. A Harbor family representative described the recognition as a “tremendous honor.” The council also announced that plans are under consideration to erect a statue of Rich Harbor in Eisenhower Park; no timeline or funding details were specified.
The council encouraged residents to attend local screenings of Harbor Chronicles; the council mentioned a Bay Theater screening scheduled for Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Admission information and any discounts were presented on the dais.
The council’s recognition is ceremonial and does not authorize funding for the proposed statue. Mayor Landau closed the presentation by thanking the Harbor family and inviting the filmmakers and family to the podium.
