Dr. Matthew Cheeseman sworn in as Craven County Schools superintendent

Dr. Matthew Cheeseman took the oath of office before the Craven County Board of Education on Jan. 27 and used his brief remarks to emphasize community relationships and staff support.
Chair Huffman administered the oath; trustees and community leaders were on hand, including state and local elected officials, college partners and district administrators. Cheeseman said he was honored to join "such a great community" and pledged to renew relationships with parents and stakeholders and to center staff and students in district work. "I want to be a part of the community, to help other people raise their kids... and let's bring our kids back into that spotlight and see where they are with their voices," he said.
Board members thanked interim leaders, notably Dr. Blunt, for their service during the transition. A reception followed the oath and the meeting adjourned.
