At its June 12 meeting, the Starr County Commissioners Court approved three administrative changes to travel and reimbursement policies.
The commissioners raised the mileage reimbursement rate from $0.70 to $0.725 per mile to align with recent travel standards; staff said all other per-diem rates remain unchanged. The court also approved a policy requiring out-of-town hotel reservations be booked directly with hotels (via purchase order or travel advance) so staff can obtain itemized receipts rather than bookings made through travel agencies.
Separately, commissioners approved an updated reimbursement and grant policy that staff described as a working document to provide more guidance to grant directors, require sign-off on purchase orders by grant directors and reflect changes in local-government practices. The judge emphasized the policy can be revised in the future.
The changes were approved by motion and carried on recorded 'aye' votes.
