City administrator warns of 31% projected street-light cost increase from Ameren; council to consider appropriation change

Monticello — City administrator Terry told the City Council on Jan. 12 that Ameren Illinois informed the city it expects a roughly 31% increase to street-light expenses beginning in January. Terry said staff will recommend increasing the street-light appropriation in an upcoming appropriation ordinance from $80,000 to about $105,000.
Terry also provided a progress update on municipal parking Lot D, saying the trash enclosure is nearly complete, the decorative façade is pending, and the gate fabrication and pavement-marking work will follow when weather permits. The administrator said a new signage plan will be installed in the lot.
What this means: A 31% utility-cost increase will require adjustment in the city’s appropriation ordinance and could affect department budgets or contingency planning. Terry told the council staff will present the appropriation change in approximately one to two months.
