Members of the Village of Cross Plains Sustainability Committee reviewed survey results and discussed how to fold sustainability priorities into the village comprehensive plan.
The committee lead told members the survey included about 167 responses and showed broad support for efforts such as recycling, more efficient buildings and expanded bicycle/pedestrian facilities. "There were a lot of questions on sustainability," the lead said, noting that some respondents indicated willingness to pay additional tax dollars for specific improvements.
Committee members agreed the group should map plan priorities into the comprehensive-plan chapters to show where recommendations would be incorporated. One member said she would cross-reference the sustainability plan items to chapters (for example, natural resources to chapter 2 or housing to chapter 6) so the committee can see which priorities are already reflected and which remain to be integrated.
Discussion highlighted specific natural-resources issues: concerns about a proposed golf course’s potential effect on groundwater recharge and questions about hillside and woodland overlay protections. Members plan to ask staff (Matt) for the village’s Cross Plains Area stormwater management plan from 1996 or any successor documents to confirm existing protections.
The committee also cataloged plan priorities to identify duplicates and items that may no longer be relevant; staff follow-up and a mapping exercise were identified as next steps. Members said they would coordinate with the planning commission to understand when the comprehensive-plan draft will be reviewed and how the committee’s recommendations should be submitted.
The committee did not take a formal vote on plan content at this meeting but agreed on next steps: produce a mapping of priorities to comp-plan chapters, ask staff for existing stormwater/stormwater-utility documents, and prepare comments for the planning commission.
