The district selected Bureau Veritas to perform a facilities condition assessment; site visits at Lakeland Preparatory, Lakeland Elementary and the district office are scheduled to begin in February with final reports due a few weeks after inspections to inform capital planning.
District staff told the board the facilities condition assessment, budgeted as part of the board's five-year strategic plan, is underway with Bureau Veritas selected to conduct the work. Staff said they held a kickoff meeting in January, will share site plans and equipment inventories with the vendor, and will welcome one to two inspectors for on-site visits at Lakeland Preparatory School, Lakeland Elementary School and the district office beginning in February.
The assessment will inventory building systems (roofs, walls, windows, foundations), utilities (heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical), fire safety, and site elements such as parking lots and sidewalks. Inspectors will tag mechanical equipment with bar codes and create a catalog of systems that includes age and serial numbers. The vendor will also provide a condition analysis of buildings and components and recommendations for replacement and capital planning.
Staff said the final reports would be provided a few weeks after the on-site visits and that district leaders expect the findings to feed the capital-improvement-plan (CIP) and budget conversations for upcoming years to avoid significant deferred-maintenance costs.
