District outlines enrollment timeline and expanded outreach for kindergarten and immersion programs

Colleen Peterson, executive director of community education outreach, and Erica Teibel, executive director of communications and marketing, told the board that enrollment for the 2026–27 school year has been open since Dec. 1 and that the district is using a layered outreach strategy to reach incoming families.
Peterson said the outreach timeline included about 5,000 mailings this fall to families with children ages 0–5; principals sent targeted welcome messages in December; a kindergarten brochure and new-family information nights are scheduled at Northpointe (Jan. 27), Center View (Jan. 29), Woodcrest (Feb. 3) and Park Terrace (Feb. 5) beginning at 5:30 p.m. Phone outreach is planned for February to confirm likely enrollments; confirmation letters are slated for March–April. Peterson noted that once families enroll, staff begin a learner profile process to connect students and families with school staff before the first day.
Teibel said the communications plan mixes mailed materials, social media, website updates and in-person tours. The district has increased outreach for its Spanish immersion program and said it will share updated handouts and online materials for families choosing immersion or other program options. Registration for high school courses and elective planning opens Jan. 12, and an 'Explore Your Options' event is scheduled Feb. 11.
