Bartlett accepts $1 million state grant for police equipment

The Bartlett Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to accept a $1,000,000 grant from the Tennessee Office of Criminal Justice Programs and to amend the FY2026 grant fund budget to appropriate the funds for police equipment and vehicles. The resolution was read into the record and approved 6–0.
Mr. Phoebus, the city's director of finance, explained the grant is from the state criminal justice program and will be used for items listed in the resolution including police vehicles and other equipment. He deferred specifics on vehicle make and model to the police department. Police Chief Cox said the funds will enhance technology and capabilities "when it comes to computers, drones" and other tools to help deter violent crime; purchases will be brought before the board as bids are issued.
Board members thanked the state for providing the funding. The board approved the appropriation without further amendment; staff described next steps as preparing bid packages and returning with purchase requests to the board.
