At the start of the meeting, council introduced two newly elected city officers: Donald Shoemaker, who took the oath as treasurer, and Lucy Pollan, who was introduced as the newly elected Commissioner of the Revenue.
Shoemaker thanked staff and residents, said two new workstations were installed at the treasurer’s window and that staff have worked extended hours to reduce backlog. He reported a high volume of payments processed in a single recent day — stating $72,680 in tax receipts and $59,000 in water and sewer payments — and estimated total intake that day could be about $200,000 once mailed and drop-box payments are counted. He said staff are returning voicemails and continuing to address wait times.
Pollan said the office is implementing new procedures intended to make processes easier for residents and expressed gratitude to the staff who supported the transition. Several council members welcomed both officials and praised the positive energy and early progress reported by staff.
No formal action on these introductions was recorded beyond the public welcome and council’s remarks; both officers were welcomed to the dais and members expressed support for timely communication with residents about service and wait times.
