Mississippi House adopts resolutions en bloc, recognizes guests and adjourns until 10 a.m. tomorrow

The Mississippi House handled routine business and recognitions before moving to the general calendar. The chairman of rules called up House concurrent resolutions HCR 8, 9 and 11 en bloc; the clerk recorded 120 ayes and 0 nays and the resolutions were adopted. The chairman then called items 4 through 12 (a set of House resolutions) en bloc; no member set items aside and the list of House resolutions noted on the floor was adopted by voice vote.

Earlier in the session Representative Thompson introduced Reverend Doctor Jeffrey Gladney of Shannon as the guest minister. In his invocation, Reverend Gladney urged the chamber to pursue policies that protect all Mississippians and said, "Medicare expansion will help fight poverty and rural hospitals closing and the growing infant mortality rate in our state," while calling for continued support of public education.

Members also recognized visitors in the galleries including Doctor Pino of Mission Primary Care Clinic, Biloxi city council members and former Representative Kevin Buck. Representative Boyd announced the death of former Representative Jerry Wilburn and the House agreed to adjourn in his memory. The House accepted a motion from the gentleman from Rankin to stand adjourned until 10 a.m. tomorrow.
