Colfax County approves hires and detention wage bumps; chair orders salary restructure within 30 days

Colfax County commissioners approved several personnel actions and directed staff to complete a countywide salary restructuring within 30 days.
The board authorized rehiring an appraiser who had been laid off at the same prior pay rate, while holding other related pay adjustments pending the imminent salary restructuring. The motion to rehire was made on the manager’s recommendation and carried by roll call.
Commissioners also approved moving forward with interviews for a financial coordinator. County staff said they had received three applications and that the position’s salary range will be $45,000 to $60,000 and the role will be nonexempt.
On public-safety staffing, the manager recommended increases to detention staff pay to address compression after entry-level officers were raised to $20 an hour. The commission approved raising sergeant pay to $23 an hour and lieutenant pay to $26 an hour; staff noted lieutenants are not eligible for overtime.
During the meeting the chair stated the county will produce "a complete revised salary of the entire weekly employee list within 30 days," and staff said department heads will be shown the structure and the change would be effective after approval.
No other personnel hires or disciplinary actions were recorded; the executive session entered earlier resulted in no action.
