Middleton committee OKs multi-firm engineering service agreements to speed project responses

The Middleton Public Works Committee on Jan. 12 voted to enter into general engineering service agreements with a roster of firms to allow quicker procurement for projects such as traffic studies, stormwater work and park civil engineering.
Staff recommended the agreements so the city can procure engineering services rapidly without separate solicitations for individual small projects. Firms listed in the packet included Adaptive Restoration, KL Engineering, Burst Surveying and Engineering, MSA Professional Services, Nunn and Associates, SRF Consulting Group and Strand Associates.
A committee member moved to adopt the agreements as recommended by staff; the motion was seconded by Matt and the committee voted to pass. Staff said the agreements would be submitted to the finance committee and common council and that the city attorney would review the contracts before council consideration.
Committee members said maintaining standing agreements is important for rapid response in situations such as redevelopment proposals that require quick technical reviews. Staff noted hourly rates were reviewed and that they did not identify unreasonable increases compared with the prior contracting period.
Next steps: staff will forward the recommended agreements and rates to the finance committee and common council for approval after city attorney review.
