Fair Oaks Ranch — City Secretary Christina Piccchio reviewed key dates for the 2026 election cycle on Jan. 15 and asked council for direction about two council meeting dates that overlap early voting operations.
Piccchio outlined the city's filing period (Jan. 14–Feb. 13), the statutory timeline to order the election (council to order on Feb. 5), and the city's election day (May 2) with the canvas anticipated May 12 and new members able to assume office May 21. She noted state primary early voting runs Feb. 17–27 (primary day Mar. 3) and primary-runoff early voting, if needed, would run May 18–22 with runoff day May 26; these statewide primaries and runoffs are administered by Bexar County and require uninterrupted access to the Public Safety Training Room for voting equipment and staff.
Because early voting would occupy the training room on Feb. 19 and May 21, staff requested council direction to cancel those meetings. Council agreed to return an agenda item on Feb. 5 to cancel the Feb. 19 meeting and to defer the May 21 decision until it is clear whether a runoff will be required and whether the county will use the room. Council noted alternatives (special meetings, alternate locations) if time-sensitive business arises.
Why it matters: the scheduling choices ensure compliance with election administration requirements and preserve voter access while maintaining the council’s monthly-meeting obligations.
Next steps: staff will prepare the formal documentation for cancellation of Feb. 19 to present on Feb. 5; staff will monitor runoff needs and room availability for May and propose alternatives if necessary.
