Kent County Board elects leadership, updates standing rules and confirms appointments

At its Jan. 8 organizational meeting the Kent County Board of Commissioners re-elected Ben Green as chair, elected Lindsey Teal vice chair and Steve Faber minority vice chair; the board unanimously adopted updates to its standing rules and confirmed multiple appointments.
The Kent County Board of Commissioners used its Jan. 8 organizational meeting to elect leadership and adopt procedural changes for 2026.
Commissioner Burrell nominated Ben Green for board chair; the nomination was supported and Green was elected by voice vote. Lindsey Teal was nominated and elected vice chair, and Commissioner McLeod nominated Steve Faber as minority vice chair; the board elected Faber by voice vote.
Commissioner Halstead moved to adopt Resolution No. 1 (2026), which updates the board’s standing rules and restructures committee responsibilities into a two-committee model the rules committee recommended. Halstead said the changes were intended to “better balance the responsibilities and roles of people on both committees” and to improve meeting efficiency. The resolution passed on a roll-call vote recorded by the clerk as 21 yays, 0 nays.
The board also adopted Resolution No. 2 (appointments to various boards, commissions and committees) and Resolution No. 3 (chair appointments subject to confirmation) by voice votes; appointee lists were provided in the board packet.
Chair Green thanked commissioners for their support after his election and noted the board will proceed under the updated rules going forward. The administrator recognized outgoing corporation counsel Linda Howell and announced an open-house to honor her service at the next meeting.
The board adjourned after a motion by Commissioner Bujak and set the next official meeting for Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
