Government Operations subcommittee says superior-court records report missing; plans joint review with House panel

The Subcommittee on Government Operations said it has not received a required report on superior court public-record cases from the court administrator’s office and will coordinate with the House Government Operations committee to obtain and review existing materials.

Tucker Anderson, legislative counsel, told the subcommittee he was not aware the superior-court report had been submitted to the General Assembly: “I am also not aware of that being sent to the general assembly,” he said, adding the report could have been produced but not uploaded to the legislative report database.

The committee’s members raised the absence of the report and discussed whether to duplicate work already done by the House Government Operations committee. Anderson said the House committee had contacted every public agency on the list to ask whether reports exist or are ongoing, had gathered recent copies and agency feedback, and had explored ways to reduce administrative burden. He recommended the subcommittee consult those materials before starting its own reviews.

Committee members agreed to ask Representative Kate Nugent — whom Anderson identified as the coordinator for the House committee’s effort — and House Government Operations Chair Matt Byron if the two panels could meet to go over a combined list and the reports. A member proposed meeting in the House committee’s larger room after the governor’s budget address next Tuesday; participants discussed possible times (one suggested 3:30–4:30 p.m.; another corrected the budget address timing) and tentatively agreed on a slot following the budget address, with the precise hour to be confirmed.

Anderson offered additional help and said he and a colleague had compiled a similar list during the last biennium and retained notes the subcommittee could use if House materials were incomplete. The subcommittee closed its session with members saying next week’s agenda was roughly 80% complete and adjourning until the following day.

Next steps: subcommittee staff will contact Representative Kate Nugent and Chair Matt Byron to request their notes and the possible joint meeting; the timing was tentatively set for after the governor’s budget address next Tuesday and remains to be finalized.
