Ripon staff confirm chromium-6 detection at Well 19; compliance plan due by October 2027

On Jan. 13 Ripon staff informed the council that chromium-6 had been detected at Well 19 and outlined the city's compliance steps.
Mister Peace told the council Ripon's municipal drinking-water system "is operating under federal and state requirements" and that the city is "meeting, and we remain, committed to full, regulatory compliance through our routine monitoring and sampling." He said the city issued a notice last week about the detection, that staff are drafting a compliance plan to submit to the state, and that the regulatory timeline requires eliminating any exceedances by October 2027. Staff said they will sample the well quarterly and post fact sheets and answers to common questions on the city's website.
Council members asked questions and staff said they expect quarterly sample results to be similar; the city has received public inquiries and will continue outreach and notifications as required under state and federal drinking-water rules.
