Board moves officer election to July, sets regular meeting dates and adopts monthly work-session cadence

At the Jan. 12 meeting the Leavenworth USD 453 board adopted two housekeeping resolutions and formalized a recurring work-session schedule.

Resolutions and timing Administration read a resolution citing state law (KSA 2-20-19 supplemental 72-11-33) that elects the board president and vice president at the first July reorganizational meeting; trustees voted to adopt that resolution. The board also adopted a separate resolution (cited as KSA 72-11-38 and recorded in the discussion as resolution 25/26-018) to set regular meeting days, times and locations for the 2026–27 school year.

Work-session schedule After extended discussion about staff availability, family commitments and public engagement, the board agreed to establish a recurring work session to allow deeper policy and planning discussion separate from the regular meeting. President Overbey moved to establish work sessions on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5–7 p.m.; the motion passed by voice vote. The administration will publish the first work-session date and circulate site logistics and materials in advance.
