Lucas said the Phase 1 budget is covered by a grant from the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, together with city matching funds. She described planned work that includes rebuilt and expanded walking trails, new playgrounds, outdoor fitness stations, picnic pavilions, improved parking, bike racks, water fountains and solar lighting for added safety across the park's 31 acres.
"Joe Moody Harris Park is coming back to life this year," Lucas said, announcing the renovation and schedule. She thanked local groups for early support, saying, "We're grateful to Franklin's Promise and the Florida Corps for helping us clean up the park." She emphasized that current plans are a first draft and sought resident input to shape the project.
Lucas invited residents to a community meeting on Monday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center to review the plans and provide feedback. No formal vote or ordinance was recorded in the update; the announcement was presented as an informational Ward Wednesday communication and an invitation to public engagement.
Next steps include the community meeting and the start of Phase 1 construction later this quarter as described by Lucas.
